Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has praised President Donald Trump, describing his response to an assassination attempt as one of the most impressive things he’s witnessed.
On July 13, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Bullets narrowly missed Trump’s head, with one grazing his ear. Trump’s reaction, standing up and shouting “fight, fight, fight” as blood dripped from his face, has been widely celebrated both domestically and internationally. The attack injured two rallygoers, and Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief, was killed while shielding his family.
In a recent Bloomberg News interview, Zuckerberg, 40, shared his thoughts on the incident. “Seeing Donald Trump get up after getting shot in the face and pump his fist in the air with the American flag is one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen in my life,” Zuckerberg remarked. He added that Trump’s resilience and fighting spirit resonate with many Americans.
Following the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, Trump was banned from Facebook and Instagram, but Zuckerberg reinstated his accounts two years later. Despite this, Zuckerberg stated he will not endorse any candidate in the upcoming 2024 election, emphasizing his platforms’ shift away from political content.
Zuckerberg explained that users have expressed a desire for less political content on social media. “The main thing that I hear from people is that they actually want to see less political content on our services because they come to our services to connect with people,” he told Bloomberg. Meta is already adjusting its content recommendations accordingly. “I think you’re going to see our services play less of a role in this election than they have in the past,” he added.
