USAID Headquarters Stripped Of Name As Trump Administration Shuts It Down

The signage at the headquarters of the United States Agency for International Development has been removed as the Trump administration moves forward with shutting down the agency. The name removal follows an audit revealing how USAID funneled billions into foreign media, leftist movements, and controversial social programs.

For years, USAID controlled a large portion of Ukraine’s media, with reports confirming that nine out of ten news outlets in the country depended on foreign donors. With USAID’s funding now cut, questions remain about who will take control of Ukraine’s press as these media outlets seek new financial support.

The agency’s funding extended far beyond media influence. Millions were spent supporting LGBT lobbying in Serbia and a transgender opera in Colombia. Other taxpayer dollars went toward a Sesame Street program in Iraq, a transgender comic book in Peru, and gender-related media training in Sri Lanka.

Black Lives Matter was another major recipient of USAID-backed funding. The Soros-linked Tides Center received a $24.7 million grant, later distributing over $12.6 million to BLM-affiliated organizations. This financial backing was provided as BLM led nationwide protests in 2020, resulting in billions of dollars in damages.

In Europe, USAID’s funding has come under scrutiny. A German lawmaker in the European Parliament has demanded an investigation into whether the agency attempted to influence elections in multiple EU countries. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has also committed to exposing U.S. funding sent to activist groups and media outlets in his country.

Further review of USAID’s activities has connected the agency to President Donald Trump’s first impeachment. Reports indicate that a CIA whistleblower relied on sources funded by USAID and the State Department when filing the complaint that launched the proceedings. With the agency’s headquarters now stripped of its name, USAID’s future appears uncertain as the administration continues dismantling its operations.
