Trump Administration Investigates Maine Governor After Executive Order Defiance

President Donald Trump is holding Maine Gov. Janet Mills accountable after she openly rejected his executive order banning men from competing in women’s sports. The Trump administration swiftly launched a federal investigation into whether Maine is violating Title IX by allowing male athletes to compete against female students.

The confrontation took place at a White House meeting where President Donald Trump confronted Mills about her decision. Mills refused to directly answer whether Maine would follow the federal order, instead stating that the state abides by both state and federal law. The president immediately warned that federal education funding would be revoked if Maine refused to comply.

Mills remained firm in her defiance, responding, “See you in court.” President Donald Trump fired back, stating he welcomed the challenge and predicting she would not have a political future beyond her current term.

Shortly after the exchange, the Trump administration’s Office for Civil Rights announced an investigation into Maine’s education policies. Officials cited allegations that schools, including Greely High School, have permitted male athletes to compete against girls, which could violate federal law.

Craig Trainor, acting assistant secretary for civil rights, emphasized that all states receiving federal education funding must comply with Title IX. He stated that federal tax dollars would not be used to support policies that deny protections to female athletes.

At CPAC, President Donald Trump continued to press Mills, calling her refusal to comply with federal law unacceptable. The audience reacted with loud boos as he reinforced his commitment to protecting fairness in women’s sports.
