Members of the Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang have intensified efforts to push their members into the United States, using violent mob tactics to breach the southern border before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. A recent attack at the El Paso, Texas, border crossing highlights the gang’s strategy to overwhelm border agents and infiltrate the U.S.
According to a memo from the Texas Department of Public Safety, a large group of armed gang members swarmed a border gate last week, overpowering agents. Authorities anticipate another mass attempt on New Year’s Day, as the gang seeks to exploit the remaining days of lax border policies.

Victor Avila, a former Homeland Security Investigations agent, emphasized the gang’s destructive intentions. “TdA operates with a terrorist-like ideology, aiming to destroy our way of life,” Avila stated. He warned that the gang’s activities will escalate as border policies tighten under Trump’s administration.

Texas officials have ramped up their defenses in response to the growing threat, deploying pepper balls and increasing National Guard presence at key border crossings. However, an anonymous source revealed the gang’s plans to target National Guard troops when agents are unavailable, demonstrating their willingness to inflict harm on U.S. personnel.

This surge in activity comes just miles from an attempted border breach last year, where a mob of illegal immigrants attacked National Guard troops in El Paso. Many involved in the riot were later released into the U.S., raising concerns about the effectiveness of current border enforcement.

The Tren de Aragua gang’s infiltration efforts mirror a larger trend of organized crime exploiting weaknesses in border security to gain a foothold in the U.S.
