Syria’s Christian Villages Destroyed As Al Qaeda Fighters Seize Power

A brutal campaign of violence against Christians and Alawites is underway in Syria, with over 1,800 people executed in the last few days alone. The country’s new Islamist government, which took power after the fall of Bashar al-Assad, has escalated attacks on religious minorities.

Assad fled to Russia in December, leaving the country under the control of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), an Al Qaeda-linked group. By January, Ahmed al-Sharaa was named interim president, and since then, massacres targeting Christians and Alawites have surged.

Reports from inside Syria paint a grim picture. Churches have been burned to the ground, entire villages have been wiped out and priests have been killed. Militants are executing Christian families in their homes, while survivors flee into the mountains with little chance of escape.

The international response has been weak. The United Nations acknowledged an increase in violence but avoided addressing the religious persecution taking place. Western media has similarly ignored the plight of Christians, focusing instead on the political shifts within Syria’s new government.

Despite having the capability to intervene, Israel has yet to take any steps to protect the Christian population. Although Israeli leaders have expressed concern about the instability in Syria, they have not responded to calls for assistance.

With the situation worsening, Christian communities in Syria are facing extermination. Thousands have already been killed, and many more remain trapped under the rule of Islamist forces.
