Sen. Kennedy Blasts Democrats For Fighting DOGE While Pushing IRS Expansion

As Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) continues to expose massive government waste, Democrats are scrambling to shut down the investigations. Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana had sharp words for those in Washington who are more concerned with protecting bureaucracy than defending American taxpayers.

On Tuesday, Kennedy pointed out the hypocrisy of the Democrats leading the charge against DOGE. Many of these same politicians backed the Biden administration’s effort to expand the IRS by 87,000 agents, a move that was set to overwhelmingly target small businesses and middle-class families.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen previously admitted in testimony before Congress that 90% of the new IRS audits would fall on individuals earning less than $400,000 per year. Despite promises that enforcement would focus on the wealthy, data shows that the agency has consistently prioritized auditing lower-income households.

Kennedy argued that while Democrats have no problem unleashing federal enforcers on everyday Americans, they suddenly object when DOGE starts scrutinizing their pet projects. Reports have already exposed billions in wasteful federal spending, much of it directed toward questionable initiatives that benefit special interests rather than the American people.

Meanwhile, the IRS expansion pushed by the Biden administration has been widely criticized for prioritizing enforcement over customer service. Despite hiring thousands of new agents, the agency has failed to resolve massive backlogs and continues to struggle with basic taxpayer assistance.

Kennedy’s remarks underscore the growing divide in Washington: Republicans are working to curb unnecessary spending, while Democrats are doing everything they can to protect it. As DOGE’s investigations continue to reveal new layers of government inefficiency, the pushback from Democrats only raises more questions about what they’re trying to hide.
