Republican Sounds Alarm Over Cuba Smuggling Chinese Nationals Into US

During a Sunday interview with the Daily Mail, Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) sounded the alarm over China and Cuba working together to transport Chinese nationals into the U.S. illegally.

The Republican congressman, who represents the Florida Keys, expressed concern about the alleged partnership between the two communist countries — pointing out that 17 Chinese nationals had been apprehended just in his district last week.

“This is the first time I think we’ve caught [Chinese nationals] trying to cross getting into the Keys area … it’s concerning,” Gimenez told the outlet during an exclusive interview. “I don’t know who they are, why they’re here, or what they were doing.”

The Chinese illegal aliens were apprehended during an operation conducted by U.S. Border Patrol agents and Florida Highway Patrol troopers, who discovered the illegals while responding to a vessel landing in Key Largo, Florida, on October 23. Local media reported that three Ecuadorians and 17 Chinese nationals, 11 men and six women, were captured during the operation.

Gimenez is currently a member of the Armed Services Committee, Homeland Security Committee, and the newly created Select Committee on China. He has demanded additional information about the Chinese illegal aliens be provided to the committees.

“That really kind of concerns me that now they’re trying to make their way in through the Keys — my part of the country,” the Republican congressman told The Daily Mail. “I understand that the Chinese are having more and more influence. More and more infrastructure projects, more and more activity in our hemisphere, especially in Cuba.”

According to a report from The Daily Wire, China made a secret deal with Cuba earlier this year that would allow the CCP to construct an electronic eavesdropping base on the island, which is roughly 100 miles off the coast of the United States.

Meanwhile, China has also sent Chinese nationals to the U.S. to pose as tourists and test the security of U.S. military bases, along with other sensitive sites. More than 100 incidents of this behavior have been recorded, according to a bombshell report earlier this year — including an incident where Chinese nationals were found swimming near a military facility in Key West, Florida, pretending to be tourists.

“We’ve seen many, many Chinese nationals, saying they’re tourists and stuff, and they’ve been photographing sensitive installations,” Gimenez confirmed, noting that these individuals targeted critical American infrastructure to “see how that can be compromised.”

The Florida congressman argued that these national security threats are the result of President Joe Biden’s open-border policies.

“And we need to get to the bottom of it, and it’s a failure of the Biden administration,” Gimenez said. “Their porous border policies are making America less and less safe.”

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) previously confirmed in a statement to the Daily Mail that more than 17,800 Chinese nationals were released into the U.S. by the Biden administration just this year.
