Report: Trump Steps In To Cool Down Tension Between MTG And Speaker Johnson After Betrayal

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly attempting to mediate the impasse between House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) who has threatened to file a notice to vacate the speaker’s position.

According to three Republican sources Trump and Greene spoke at length this past weekend about her actions against Johnson with the former president urging her to stand down.

“I have it under very very good sources that President Trump did engage” Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-MT) said. “And I’m hoping that perhaps one would come to the conclusion that You made your point but don’t be Kamikaze because if you go for this you’re going to get beaten down.”

Another anonymous GOP source said Trump “told her not to do it.”

Johnson confirmed he met with Greene and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) who backs her call for an ouster vote on Monday describing the discussion as “good” and “productive.”

Trump has publicly praised Johnson while urging Greene not to move forward with the motion to vacate repeatedly emphasizing the need for Republican unity heading into the November elections.

Some Republicans warn that Greene risks political blowback by going against Trump on the issue but some of the former president’s allies believe she is not being disloyal to him with her actions.
