Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said on Breitbart News Saturday that establishment corporate interests with “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS) are the ones backing former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (R) for president in 2024.
Noting that his website, NeverNikki.net has received millions of page visits, Sen. Paul said, “I think that if the folks know who she is and they know that she’s coming from the McConnell-Dick Cheney wing of the party, I think people don’t want that. I think people do not want that as our standard bearer.”
Paul said he’s concerned Haley would be more likely than Trump, DeSantis, or Ramaswamy to “get us involved in a war.” He pointed out that the three other candidates have “had significant misgivings and criticism of sending more money to Ukraine.” The Kentucky Senator said he wants to ensure true conservative and libertarian voters steer clear of supporting Haley.
“And I’m very, very concerned that if she were president that she’d get us involved in foreign wars,” Paul said just before sharing where he thinks the surge in donations to her campaign is coming from. “I think there’s definitely a surge in money,” he said, explaining that corporate interests that have “Trump Derangement Syndrome” are the ones backing Haley’s campaign.
“They frankly have Trump Derangement Syndrome and hate Donald Trump so much that they want anybody but Donald Trump. That’s still part of it,” said Paul, pointing out that TDS exists on the Republican side, not only among voters and interest groups with center-left politics. “I mean, that doesn’t occur just on the Democrat side.”
“There are some corporate, you know, wealthy folks on the Republican side, and these are the establishment people. These are the ones who don’t care about the border. These are the ones who don’t care about the deficit. Frankly, they only care about their particular industry, and they’ll give to both parties,” he said.
In a recent appearance on Newsmax, New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) said, “I’m sorry, but nobody cares what Rand Paul thinks in this race. This race is in Iowa and New Hampshire; it’s in South Carolina. She’s the only candidate that’s surging.”
