Officials in New Jersey recently reported a new trend among buses carrying illegal immigrants, which includes the buses dropping off the unlawful migrants in train stations where they will then continue their journey to New York City, marking efforts to circumvent new rules implemented by New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D).
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy’s (D) office told Politico that buses have been dropping off illegal immigrants at train stations in cities across The Garden State.
“Our Administration has tracked the recent arrival of a handful buses of migrant families at various NJ TRANSIT train stations,” a spokesman for Murphy, Tyler Jones, told Politico. “New Jersey is primarily used as a transit point for these families — all or nearly all of them continued with their travels en route to their final destination of New York City.”
“We are closely coordinating with our federal and local partners on this matter, including our colleagues across the Hudson,” Jones added.
The crisis at the southern border was largely caused by one person: President Joe Biden. The Biden administration’s refusal to tackle the illegal immigration crisis has led cities across America, including those run by pro-open borders Democrats, to combat the issue.
Murphy, who ran for New Jersey governor in 2017 touting the state’s sanctuary status, warned unlawful migrants in September 2023 that The Garden State could not take in any more of them.
In 2017, Murphy emphasized making New Jersey a “sanctuary state.” In his efforts to please leftists, the then-gubernatorial candidate focused his campaign on softening anti-illegal immigration policies as he ran against former New Jersey Lieutenant Gov. Kim Guadagno (R).
During the 2017 campaign, Guadagno condemned policies advocating to make New Jersey a sanctuary for illegal immigrants. Still, Murphy disagreed, claiming that taking in unlawful migrants was about “the goodness of America” and righting the “nation’s moral compass.”
The recent uptick in buses dropping off illegal immigrants at train stations, most of which are doing so at the behest of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R), come after Adams implemented a series of rules limiting the times, days, and number of buses that are allowed to enter the Big Apple and drop off its passengers.

Adams recently emphasized that the buses are creating an “erosion of quality of life” for residents of New York City.
