Massive Social Security Records Fraud Uncovered, Musk Says Investigation Just Beginning

Elon Musk’s team at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has exposed a major problem within Social Security, identifying millions of individuals listed as over 100 years old, with some reaching improbable ages like 150. The revelations have already caused major upheaval, with the acting head of the Social Security Administration stepping down amid tensions over access to recipient records.

Speaking from the White House, Musk called the situation “wild,” questioning how individuals far older than any known human could still be listed as beneficiaries. “Either we’ve discovered immortality, or something is very wrong,” he said.

The Social Security Administration previously acknowledged issues with outdated records, with a 2023 audit finding 18.9 million people over 100 still listed as living. While most of these individuals are not receiving benefits, DOGE is investigating whether inactive Social Security numbers have been exploited for fraud.

Michelle King, the agency’s acting commissioner, resigned over the weekend after reportedly refusing to grant DOGE full access to the agency’s database. The White House has nominated financial executive Frank Bisignano to replace her, signaling a push for reform.

Fraud within Social Security has been an ongoing issue. A prior government audit revealed billions of dollars in reported earnings tied to individuals long deceased, and thousands of active accounts belonged to individuals over 112 years old.

DOGE has vowed to continue its efforts, with Musk making it clear that exposing government waste is a top priority. “This isn’t radical,” he said. “It’s just common sense.”
