Jamie Raskin Suggests Congress May Disqualify Trump, Hints At Civil War

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has ignited a firestorm with recent comments suggesting that Congress could disqualify President Donald Trump if he wins the 2024 election, potentially leading to civil unrest. Speaking at a voter rights event hosted by a left-wing professor, Raskin invoked the Fourteenth Amendment as the basis for such a disqualification.

Raskin’s remarks come in the wake of a Supreme Court decision against Colorado’s attempt to disqualify Trump under the Fourteenth Amendment. In the video, which surfaced on YouTube, Raskin says, “They want to kick it to Congress, so it’s going to be up to us on January 6th, 2025, to tell the rampaging Trump mobs that he’s disqualified, and then we need bodyguards for everybody and civil conditions.”

The video, which appears authentic based on high-resolution footage and accurate lip-syncing, has drawn sharp criticism from Republican lawmakers. Chip Roy and others have condemned Raskin’s statements, arguing that they undermine democratic principles and could incite violence.

Critics argue that Raskin’s rhetoric is inflammatory and dangerous, particularly his description of Trump supporters as “rampaging mobs.” The suggestion that Congress might disqualify a democratically elected president and the subsequent need for “bodyguards” highlights the deep political divisions and potential for unrest.

As the 2024 election approaches, Raskin’s comments are likely to fuel further debate about the role of Congress, the interpretation of the Fourteenth Amendment, and the stability of American democracy.
