A Florida mother is sounding the alarm after a fire, which she believes was caused by her Wi-Fi router, destroyed her home and left her family with nothing. Keona Huntley shared the aftermath of the blaze on social media, urging others to be vigilant about potential household fire hazards.
The fire reportedly began in Huntley’s bedroom, where her Quantum Fiber internet router was located. Huntley revealed that she had been experiencing issues with the device for months, with technicians visiting her home multiple times to address the problem. Just two months before the fire, the router had been replaced, but connectivity issues persisted.
When the fire broke out, it quickly spread throughout the home. Huntley posted footage showing blackened walls, a charred mattress reduced to springs, and debris scattered across what was once her family’s living space. “We literally lost everything,” she said in her video, adding that her three children and other family members have nothing left to return to.
Huntley admitted that she did not have renters insurance, compounding the difficulty of rebuilding. “I didn’t have renters insurance, and that was on me,” she shared. “Now I have to live with the guilt that my kids don’t have a home.”
Commenters on Huntley’s TikTok encouraged her to pursue legal action and ensure that fire investigators examine the router for defects. Some also advised her to contact her insurance company, despite her lack of renters coverage, to support an investigation.
Huntley and her family have started a GoFundMe campaign, seeking help from the community to cover essential needs like temporary housing and replacement belongings. “In a matter of moments, the place where we built memories, shared laughter, and found comfort was reduced to ashes,” Huntley wrote.
As of now, fire investigators have not determined the exact cause of the fire, and Quantum Fiber has yet to comment. Huntley’s warning serves as a stark reminder for homeowners to regularly inspect electronic devices for safety risks and ensure adequate insurance coverage.
