A mysterious swarm of drones reportedly followed a U.S. Coast Guard vessel off the New Jersey coast, and a crew member is pushing back against the Biden administration’s dismissal of the event. The encounter has fueled questions about potential security risks and the White House’s handling of the incident.
The drones, described as large with flashing red, green and white lights, appeared around 9 p.m. and tracked the vessel for over 15 minutes. The objects maintained a steady height of 80 to 100 feet and followed the boat’s course changes before flying inland.
John Kirby of the National Security Council claimed the drones were likely commercial airplanes and posed no threat. However, the Coast Guard crew member dismissed that explanation, calling it “insulting” and insisting they were trained to identify drones.
“These were not store-bought drones,” he said. “They were advanced, possibly government-made.”
Despite dismissing the sightings, the FAA has imposed a temporary ban on drone activity in certain parts of New Jersey, raising questions about the administration’s stance. Critics argue the conflicting actions undermine confidence in the government’s response.
The incident follows a string of drone sightings near military facilities, leading some to call for increased scrutiny of these activities. The Coast Guard member believes the administration has not taken the threat seriously enough.
