Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) conceded the Senate race to Republican Dave McCormick on Thursday, following two weeks of contesting the results. The final count showed McCormick defeating Casey by just over 16,000 votes, a margin that was within the 0.5% range required for an automatic recount under Pennsylvania law.
Casey’s concession speech was gracious, offering congratulations to McCormick for his hard-fought victory. “I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election to represent Pennsylvania in the United States Senate,” Casey said in a statement. “As the first count of ballots is completed, Pennsylvanians can move forward with the knowledge that their voices were heard, whether their vote was the first to be counted or the last.”

The election, which was one of the closest in Pennsylvania’s history, saw McCormick securing the win in a highly competitive race. “This race was one of the closest in our Commonwealth’s history, decided by less than a quarter of a point,” Casey added. “I am grateful to the thousands of people who worked to make sure every eligible vote cast could be counted.”

McCormick, who will now represent Pennsylvania in the Senate, expressed appreciation for Casey’s service to the state. “Dina and I want to extend our sincere gratitude to Senator Casey, Terese, and their family for their decades of service, hard work, and personal sacrifice,” McCormick said. “I am so honored to represent every single citizen in Pennsylvania in the United States Senate and will fight for you every day.”
With McCormick’s win, Republicans have now flipped several Senate seats, gaining a 53-47 majority in the Senate for the upcoming 119th Congress.
