Biden Leverages Maine Tragedy For Gun Control Agenda

In the wake of this week’s tragic shootings in Lewiston, Maine, Joe Biden has once again seized the opportunity to push his gun control agenda, calling for a repeal of protections for gun makers and the implementation of universal background checks, among other measures.

In a statement issued Thursday, Biden urged Republican lawmakers to “fulfill their duty to protect the American people” and pass a bill banning assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as enact universal background checks and end what he called “immunity from liability for gun manufacturers.” Of course, Congress’s duty is to protect and support the Constitution, not to bend to the progressive agenda to subvert individual freedoms to the will of the state.

It is worth noting that Biden’s statement on gun manufacturers having “immunity from liability” is false. Gun manufacturers are not shielded from liability but rather are protected from frivolous lawsuits over the criminal use of guns that are legally made and legally sold.

It is disheartening to see the President use such a devastating event as a means to push a political agenda that undermines the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens. The reality is that taking away guns from those who use them responsibly will do nothing to prevent criminals from obtaining and using them illegally.

Furthermore, Biden’s calls for universal background checks and the banning of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines are misguided. These measures will not prevent shootings from occurring, as criminals will always find ways to circumvent the law. What they will do, however, is restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families.

The shooting in Maine is a tragic and senseless act that has affected countless lives. It is a stark reminder that there is a need for solutions that address the root causes of violence rather than simply restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens.

Biden’s push for greater gun control is not the answer. It is a misguided attempt to use tragedy as a means to further a political agenda that will do little to prevent future shootings. Instead, we should focus on enforcing the laws that are already in place and providing support for mental health services to prevent individuals from reaching the point where they feel the need to commit such heinous acts.
