Benson Threatens Michigan Officials Over Election Law Compliance

Jocelyn Benson, Michigan’s leftist Secretary of State, has issued a threat to local election officials, threatening them with consequences if they fail to certify election results. This threat was made clear in a recent video collaboration with The Recount, a media outlet known for its far-left leanings.

“If someone were to violate the law and not certify the election at the local level, we will come for you,” Benson stated, underscoring her intention to enforce strict compliance with state election laws. Her aggressive stance comes as Michigan, a crucial swing state, remains under the national spotlight for its role in determining election outcomes.

Republican state Sen. Jim Runestad offered a contrasting viewpoint, explaining that Michigan law provides a process for handling situations where local boards of canvassers do not certify results. Runestad emphasized that election records would be forwarded to the state board of canvassers for investigation, allowing local officials to certify corrected results without facing immediate punitive actions.

Benson also took aim at what she labeled as “misinformation” about the election process, encouraging Michigan residents to report any such instances to a state-run email address. However, her focus on “misinformation” has raised concerns among conservatives, who fear that the term is being used to suppress free speech and control the public narrative.

As Michigan continues to play a pivotal role in national elections, Benson’s threats and demands may further polarize the electorate. Her approach raises questions about the balance of power between state and local officials and the future of election integrity in this key battleground state.
