Aurora Judge Shuts Down Gang-Infested Apartment Complex Over Safety Fears

A Colorado judge has ordered the emergency closure of The Edge at Lowry apartment complex in Aurora after it became a hub for violent migrant gang activity. The complex has been plagued by escalating crime, primarily linked to the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, prompting the city to take decisive action to protect public safety.

Judge Shawn Day ruled that the complex posed an “immediate threat to public safety,” following a petition by city officials against the property owner, Five Dallas Partners, LLC. Despite the ruling, city officials estimate the full closure will not occur until mid-February to allow time for residents to relocate.

Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain described the complex as a breeding ground for violent and property crimes. He stated that the gang had created an atmosphere of fear and control over other residents. In 2024 alone, police responded to 382 calls for service at the property, underscoring the severity of the problem.

Nine suspected Tren de Aragua members were arrested after a brutal December home invasion at the complex. The gang members allegedly broke into a couple’s apartment, where they beat, stabbed and kidnapped the victims, leaving them hospitalized. Authorities have linked much of the violence at the complex to this dangerous migrant gang.

A total of 19 suspects were initially arrested, though three were later released. The remaining suspects are in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as investigations continue. Seven additional suspects are still under investigation but have not yet been charged.

City officials are working with nonprofit organizations and a third-party management firm to assist lawful tenants during the transition. Jessica Prosser, Aurora’s Director of Housing and Community Services, said the focus will be on supporting families affected by the closure. Law enforcement will continue monitoring the property to ensure safety as the closure process moves forward.
