Aide To NY Governors Arrested For Allegedly Acting As Chinese Agent

Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was arrested along with her husband, Christopher Hu, on charges of working as an undisclosed agent for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The arrest occurred after the FBI raided their Long Island home.

Sun, 41, is charged with several federal crimes, including violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, visa fraud, and money laundering conspiracy. Her husband, 40, faces charges related to money laundering conspiracy and bank fraud. Federal authorities allege that the couple funneled millions of dollars into the U.S. to benefit the Chinese government, using the money to purchase luxury properties and high-end vehicles.

According to the indictment, Sun used her position within New York state government to facilitate meetings for Chinese officials while preventing representatives from Taiwan from engaging with state officials. Their illegal activities allegedly funded the purchase of a $4.1 million home on Long Island, a $2.1 million condo in Hawaii, and a 2024 Ferrari.

U.S. Attorney Breon Peace stated that Sun and her husband took advantage of their positions to further the interests of the Chinese government, a clear violation of U.S. law. Gov. Hochul’s administration quickly dismissed Sun in March 2023 upon uncovering evidence of her illegal activities, and they have since assisted federal investigators.

This case underscores the serious risk of foreign influence within American political institutions and the need for vigilance in safeguarding national security.
