1,100+ Migrants In Harris County Jail Facing ICE Detainers, Report Finds

Records from Houston’s Harris County Jail show that over 1,100 illegal migrants, or about 10% of the jail’s population, are flagged with ICE detainers. Many of these detainees are accused of violent crimes, including cases of murder and sexual assault, which has prompted further scrutiny of border policies.

According to Fox News, nearly half of the detained migrants face charges of violent crimes. Among them, 75 inmates are charged with murder, 22 of which are capital murder.

The death of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungarayu, allegedly at the hands of two Venezuelan migrants, has fueled public criticism of the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies. Her mother has been outspoken, arguing that these policies are putting Americans at risk.

Another family affected by crime involving illegal migrants is that of Victoria Garcia, whose son was reportedly killed by an illegal migrant in a road rage incident. Garcia shared her frustration with immigration policies, saying, “Ricardo didn’t ask to be killed. I didn’t ask for my son to be murdered.”

Local officials are also voicing their concerns. Harris County Commissioner Tom Ramsey commented on the challenges of managing crime levels in the area, noting that crime by illegal migrants is a growing issue. Ramsey emphasized that safety should be a top priority for elected officials nationwide.

As Texas continues to grapple with the impacts of illegal immigration, this report has intensified calls for action on border security and public safety.
